Hyounsang Yoo explores relationships between history and the production of idealized realities using photography, video, installation, and sculpture. Yoo references image production and memory as a strategy to recontextualize cultural histories, globalized mass media messaging, and outline socio-political landscapes of consumer markets. Yoo received his BFA and MFA in Photography from the School of the Art Institute Chicago,

Hyounsang Yoo's work has been exhibited nationally and internationally at among other venues, the Museum of Contemporary Photography; Drents Museum Assen, Netherlands; Expo Chicago; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Bridge Art Fair in Chelsea, New York; Centro Colombo Americano Bucaramanga, Columbia; Galerie F/5.6, Germany; Hongik Museum of Art, Korea; and Gallery Won. He has received several awards for his work, including the 2014 Snider Prize, a PhotoSpiva 2013 Merit Award, an International Photography Award, a Silver Eye Center Commendation Award, the James Weinstein Memorial Fellowship, and Selected Artists Belt, Korea.
