Hyounsang Yoo explores relationships between history and the production of idealized realities using photography, video, installation, and sculpture. Yoo references image production and memory as a strategy to recontextualize cultural histories, globalized mass media messaging, and outline socio-political landscapes of consumer markets. Hyounsang Yoo's work has been exhibited nationally and internationally at among other venues, the Museum of Contemporary Photography; Drents Museum Assen, Netherlands; Expo Chicago; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Bridge Art Fair in Chelsea, New York; Centro Colombo Americano Bucaramanga, Columbia; Galerie F/5.6, Germany; Hongik Museum of Art, Korea; and Gallery Won. He has received several awards for his work, including the 2014 Snider Prize, a PhotoSpiva 2013 Merit Award, an International Photography Award, a Silver Eye Center Commendation Award, the James Weinstein Memorial Fellowship, and Selected Artists Belt, Korea.
